How to get services in Louisiana
Most long-term supports are paid for by Medicaid, often through a waiver program. Start with Medicaid, then get on the program that fits. Many programs have a waiting list, so apply early.
Start here Louisiana Medicaid · Louisiana Department of Health (LDH)
Apply online (opens in a new tab) · Call (888) 342-6207 · Yes, at a Medicaid office or application center listed in the LDH directory.
Louisiana gives Medicaid to people who get SSI without a separate Medicaid application.
Long term care and waiver Medicaid is handled by the Long-Term Care Processing Center at 1-800-230-0690, with no online option. The Family Opportunity Act program covers some children with disabilities whose family income is too high for regular Medicaid or LaCHIP, with a small monthly premium.
For children: Act 421 Children's Medicaid Option (TEFRA): covers children under 19 with qualifying disabilities even when parent income is too high for regular Medicaid.
If you work: Medicaid Purchase Plan (MPP): lets working people with disabilities keep Medicaid at higher earnings, with a premium for some members.
Steps
