How to get services in Montana
Most long-term supports are paid for by Medicaid, often through a waiver program. Start with Medicaid, then get on the program that fits. Many programs have a waiting list, so apply early.
Start here Montana Medicaid · Montana DPHHS, Office of Public Assistance
Apply online (opens in a new tab) · Call (888) 706-1535 · Visit your county Office of Public Assistance.
Montana is a 1634 state, so people who get SSI are usually enrolled in Medicaid based on the Social Security decision without a separate application.
Adults with disabilities who do not get SSI can apply under the aged, blind and disabled rules; the state may need to make its own disability decision.
For children: None confirmed (no Montana TEFRA or Katie Beckett option was found on state pages this run).
If you work: Not confirmed (a Montana Medicaid buy-in page could not be reached this run; ask the Public Assistance Help Line).
Steps
- Apply online at apply.mt.gov or call the Public Assistance Help Line at 1-888-706-1535
- You can also email [email protected] to ask for a paper application
- Send any proof the state asks for
- Wait for your decision letter
- If you want home and community services, ask for a waiver screening after you apply
Have these ready
- Photo ID or other proof of identity
